Facing a sunny day with temperatures in the 90s, Diva spirits also rose and faced the competition admirably. More than 50 teams competed in the two qualifying morning races to earn a place in the finals. The Divas held their own well in competition with teams of men and women winning their first heat and maintaining a good pace in the second heat.
The team also paddled during a poignant breast cancer survivor ceremony as teams gathered on the water and tossed flowers into the river as a tribute to teammates and friends who are no longer with us.
The afternoon brought the final race of the day in the Breast Cancer division. Racing against two other survivor teams, the Divas finished several boat lengths ahead to win the heat. All who were on the team received a gold medal. Congratulations to Coach Terri and Team Captain Cindi as well as our three new Divas – Kristin, Linda, and Becki who participated in their first out of town race.
