The team was comprised of paddlers from Florida, Philadelphia, Superior, and Chicago. Under the excellent leadership of the Diva’s own Margie Kron, we placed tenth out of 60 teams and had a total blast. Our boat raced three 500 meter races. The Diva newbie, Leah, had never participated in a 500 meter race and paddled like a pro.
Leah commented, “I was very nervous thinking about racing 500 meters.” Her Diva mentor assured Leah that she had done it in practice and could “handle it”. After the race Leah acknowledged she “didn’t find it impossible”. One aspect of the festival really pulled at her heartstrings. Because the Earth Dragons were not a breast cancer survivor team, they didn’t participate in the breast cancer survivor ceremony. Leah found watching the ceremony from shore “very powerful and emotional”.
